and the “ head – over – heels” churn. The old Irish churn every farmer have [has] round here. There are three parts to this churn, the lid and the dash. The cream is put into the churn. Then my mother makes the churning. If any person comes into the house while the churning is making they have to help to make the churning. The old people used to say if you would not help you would bring the butter with you. Another old saying is that if any man came into the house he could not bring out any fire.
