Travelling people used to call to our home in former times. They had been doing so for many years. They were very poor. They used not sell any articles. They were not welcome because sometimes they remained for a few nights. They would be satisfied to sleep on a few bundles of straw on the kitchen floor. Some of the travelling people used to have food with them. The alms they accepted were bread, eggs, flour, and money. They travelled on foot. The best known of them in this locality was Mary Hund and she travelled every county in Ireland. When she came to our house last she was very old and feeble. She used always tell stories and she used to bring news from distant parts of Ireland. Every eveningRuth TAnaithnid
