The farm animals we have at home are cow, calves, sheep, horses, pigs and cattle. The domestic animals are the cat and the dog. Some of the cows have special names such as Polly. white-face and horny. When the cows are been driven in or out of the fields "ho up" is said. The calves have no special names they are called by saying "suck suck".
Our cow-house is a big one it has two doors and a manger for the cattle to eat out of. It is called a "byre". The cows are tied with a chain around the neck. The chains are made of iron but they are not home-made.
There are no customs or stories conected with milking told localy but it is said if you sing when milking the cow will give more milk.
There is no branch or emblem of any kind hung in the cow-house except if a horseshoe is found it is put on the cow-house door up side down to keep the luck from falling out.
