  1. On the night of the 14th of December 1932, about half-past eight the schooner "Mount Laoghaire" was wrecked about a mile to the south of Carne pier. She could easily be seen for four miles around the coast.
    As soon as her distress signals were seen, Tom Ryan, who has charge of the apparatus in Carne, set the apparatus at work as soon as all the hands were summoned. Rockets illuminated the night and the life-line was cast out, but, unfortunately the doomed ship was too far out.
    More rockets soared and very soon the Rosslare life boat was speeding to the scene. All the crew were rescued but one man by the name of Cloney
