  1. Long ago when people were baking bread they used make enough that would do them for a week. The vessel they baked the bread in was called a bastable. They used put cuts in the bread to make it rise.
    Farmers had a quern of their own. It was used for grinding wheat, oats and corn. The bread they made was potato cake, stampy, and griddle bread.
