  1. In olden times bread was made from wheat. It was growing locally. The querns were used for grinding the corn. They used make potato cake and stampy and oat-meal bread. Long ago enough bread was made for a week. There were marks cut on the top of the cake and this is done yet. The bread was made in ovens and griddles.
