- Long ago the old people had churns at home. It is nearly twenty years since churns were used. They were three or four feet from the ground. The names of the parts were the stuff the two handles. Some people make butter two days a week in the summer and one day in the winter. Some times the man of the house or the woman of the house made it. If the stranger came in they should take a turn at churning a bit.
