- The fairs are held in Listowel every second week. The good cows sold last fair were worth ten pounds. When a man sells a cow to another person he gives him luck money. If he did not the man that bought the cow would think that the cow would die. This luck money is called "Earnest". When the jobber is making a bargain he would hit the man's palm.
When animals are sold there is a piece of string tied on their tails, clipped with a scissors, or marked with a wax coloured pencil.
