- There are a lot of weeds growing in my farm at home. Their names are felistrium, rushes, crow weed, chicken weed. Felistrium and rushes make the land poor and crow weed and chicken weed smother turnips and mangolds and are very troublesome when weeding. The thistle grows on rich land and rushes grow on poor land. Macawee (yellow root) is a poisonous plant. The root of it is used to poison fish. Dandelion is a plant which is used to cure coughs. The black thistle is used for curing horses from worms. Praiseach buidhe is a weed that grows very plentifully in oats and wheat. Caistreabhán is used for feeding pigs. Nettles are used for feeding turkeys and chickens. Cosa mo cóg (the seed of the dog-leaf) is used for feeding hens and ducks and other foul. The juice of the dog-leaf would cure a burn from a nettle.
