  1. Fionn Mac Cumhail was a great Irish hero. King Cormac was high King of the Ireland at the time of Fionn. Fionn was the leader of a band of brave knights who guarded the coast of Erin. Their chief camp was on the hill of Allen in Kildare. Fionn and his men were very strong and tall and no man was allowed to join their army without passing certain tests. He must be able to leap over a tree as high as his forehead and to stoop under a bush as high as his knee. Ossian the poet who was the son of Fionn sang afterwards of his fathers band. In
