Walter was informed on by an OByrne. On discovery of the plot Walter decided to capture the great Fiach and hand him over to the English. But according to notes by Fr. Galvin P.P. of Rathdrum from 1850 to 1875 the great chief discovered the plot and had Walter Reagh put to death.
Another account states that it was an OToole not an OByrne who informed on Walter Reagh.
