  1. Long ago people made more things for the home than now. Basket weaving was largely done through the country and this embraced creel making too. Flat baskets, on which to drain large pots of potatoes were made from the white sally. The rods were pulled and peeled at a certain time and left to season for a short time. Creels were and are made from the sally too. These creels and baskets are very handy in a farmer's house. The donkey carries two creels one on either side when drawing turf out of the bog in wet weather.
The baskets too are used for carrying in the supplies of turf from the rick according as wanted and often the children sat round the basket of spuds placed on the middle of the floor and ate their fill there from.
Clothes baskets and market baskets were made from the sally and often very well done.
