- In the days gone by the people made bread on griddle irons. They made the bread out of oaten meal mostly. Some more of them made it out of rye. Every one had a quern in the house. The quern was made of stone. It was made round with a hole in the middle of it. There was a handle put into this hole and there was another stone left to the back of the stone with the hole. They would let the oaten meal down between the two stones and then twist the handle and the meal would come out in the bottom and then on to(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
