  1. In the year eighteen-thirty-nine there lived two old witches one or two miles beyond Louisburg. They used to be always fighting with one another. One night however they had an awful falling-out. between the two of them about something. One of them said to the other "I will turn the flag on you" and the other one said nothing. The one that said "I will turn the flag on you" went out the door in a rage. She told the other witch to come with her and although she was vexted she went. About one mile beyond the village where they lived there was another village called Ashlawn
