  1. A man named James O Donnell was coming from Castlebar one night between twelve or one o' clock. He was a very courageous and as he was within a few miles of Islandeady cross roads he heard a noise as of a horse and car behind him. It took it a long time to pass him out. When it passed him out he saw that it was not a horse and car but it was a carriage with a horse pulling it. There were two lights on each side of the carriage and too passengers on each side also. After a while it came to a bothrin and it went down to a little village. James O Donnell kept going on until he felt the carriage coming up from the village. When it passed him out it kept going on until it came to a little criggán on the side of the road and then disappeared. He could only hear a noise like Sand falling out of a cart. He kept going on home and when he reached
