- Children made guns from elder sticks, by taking out the middle and pressing in a bit of paper half wat then put in another bit of paper. Others would make bird baskets for catching birds alive this was made with sally sticks tied together with twine and a twig tied underneath to make a bough, and the basket held up with a bit of stick and when the bird perches on the bough the weight of him knocks the cage and then he is caught.
