A poor woman in Ennis, had no butter for breakfast

A poor woman in Ennis had no butter for breakfast. She had not the wherewithal to buy some. She consulted a nighbour of hers. It was market day in Ennis and the poor woman proceeded to the butter market. She asked a vendor of butter for a pound of butter. He gave it to her. She asked him to show her another pound. He did so. The poor woman held the pounds of butter in her hands as if wishing to discover which was the heavier. While doing so her neighbours rushed in saying "It is here you are and your mother dead". The poor woman, visibly shocked and grieved replied "mo mother dead" and slapping one pound of butter down on the other hurriedly took her departure taking the butter with her in her well simulated consternation.
