16-V1- '38 smoking .He offered him the pipe but Pewter refused it each time and so the little man turned in a lane-way and disappeared. When Pewter arrived at Biddy's she told him his trouble before he said anything and that when he did go back he'd meet his wife at the door with the child in her arms- dead. She also told him about the man and that if he took the pipe he would never get as far as her house. When Pewter came home it was just as Biddy had said ,he met his wife at the door with the dead child in her arms.
