- In the townland of Raylane about five miles from Quin, there lived a family of the Mac Gees.
The Mac Gees were patriots, and in the penal days fought bravely for their rights. In their possession was a crock of gold.
The plundering invaders having heard of it, spared no efforts to become the owners. Rather than surrender the treasure more than one Mac Gee sacrificed his life. Enticement could not induce him nor threats force him to divulge the secret hiding place.
Being well guarded, during the lifetime of the Mac Gee's the crock of gold remained unearthed but before the death of John, the last of the family, he sent for three of his favourite neighbours and told them the secret place in which they were to find it and how to find it.
From his death bed in a low and solemn note he said "My crock of gold(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
