An Irish soldier was just going to run his pike through the young man's neck when the Wexford man stepped between, and said it would be a shame to kill one so young and helpless .So he spared his life ,and the same soldier was transferred to Clare and again met his rescuer on the Spancilhill Road. They all spent a jolly evening singing and carousing and the Wexford man became an idol of the country boys in the locality.
