  1. Once upon a time there lived in Kilbarron in the parish of Feakle a very peculiar old woman, famous for her skill in witchcraft. It seems that in her early days she resided with her son in boteen in the parish of Flagmount quite convenient to Lough-a-Toire. Her real name was Bridget Flannery and she had as son called Mickie. He was a renowned fluteplayer and he oftenplayed at crossroad gatherings. He was killed and with him passed away her chief hope of support. Someone gave her a magic bottle and told her that as long as she kept it she would never be in want. She had now to dpend on the bottle to support her as her son was dead and by looking into the bottle she knew all things. Very often before Day break, the little boreen leading to her abode would be lined with carriages awaiting their turn to speak with her. However the story ended well the clergy continually preached against
