- In the year 1839 a terrible wind-storm broke through the land. The people of Ireland still remember that year as the year of the "Big Wind".
On the twenty fourth of February 1839 the sky became as red as blood. The people were very much afraid, because they did not know what was going to happen them. About ten o'clock that night the wind started to blow.
It knocked houses, killed people, tore up trees, swept ricks of straw and hay away, and killed cattle, horses and sheep.
On the day before the storm a man named John Cooney went to Limerick with the Morelands, who owned Raheen at that time. He left them in Limerick and started to go home in a carriage drawn by two horses. When he was about half way home a(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
