- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)brushwood and dead leaves. The thrush prefers the hedge because it is a timid bird and from its shelter it can see approaching danger without being seen. Another reason is that on a Winters day it is the most likely place in which to find a stray morsel of food - some seed or berry that has been overlooked till then. When the blackbird is frightened it flies away with a loud alarm cry which he repeats several times.
