  1. You feeling hearted Christians of every degree,
    claim your kind attention to sympathize with me;
    Till I relate the unhappy fate which lately has befell
    Seventeen souls upon Lough Silllin; most heartrendering for to tell.
    On the 25th July upon this present year,
    From the parish school of Cullies, as it plainly doth appear;
    The master and his scholars, the monitor and his wife,
    Went to boat upon Lough Sillin where they lost their precious life.
    That morning those children's hearts were glad when they heard the joyful news,
    When hasting around Lough Sillin they were going to have a cruise.
    They parted friends and parents not thinking it would be
    That their pleasant day would terminate in death and misery.
    All dressed in their best attire, cheeks like roses red;
    The small selected party with their master at their head.
    They were not long arriving till the waters bloomed aside
    And the fatal boat was waiting for them upon the tide.
    As soon as they started out it would make your heart rejoice
    To see their innocent pastime and to hear their laughing voice.
    They gave three cheers with joy as they shoved out from shore;
