  1. Three months before the Whitsun Fair,
    The Ribbon-men they did prepare,
    To wreck and plunder and to tear
    And burn the town of Shercock.
    With ribbons tied around their waist,
    They did come up with greatest haste,
    But their jackets we did soundly baste
    In the Whitsun Fair of Shercock.
    A Tory whistle loud and shrill,
    It blew from Taghart to Marron's Hill.
    "Hold on my boys, destroy and kill
    The Protestants of Shercock."
    The "tigs" cried out, "is this the way
    That we will make the massacre?
    The Ribbon-men will win the day".
    And they attached Shercock.
    To Caffery we applied for aid,
    But us he all denied and said
    "The longest Stand and the toughest hide
