  1. Copied from an old M.S. said to have been written about fifty years ago by Tom Parker of Drumhilla, Shercock.
    The day before the July Fair,
    The Ribbon-men they did prepare,
    For three miles round to wreck and tear
    And burn the town of Shercock.
    A Tory whistle loud and shrill,
    We heard it o'er the Mourne Hill.
    "Fall on brave boy we'll slay and kill
    The Protestants of Shercock."
    The day came on, they did repair,
    In multitudes to Shercock fair;
    Some travelled thirty miles or "mare",
    To burn the town of Shercock.
    They all appeared in great haste,
    White handkerchiefs tied round their waist
    Their jackets we did soundly baste
    That July day in Shercock.
    The Protestants and Orangemen,
    Like brothers did assemble then,
    To keep the town was their design,
