   Old Houses

   In early times houses were made from sods but later they were made of mud and stones. These houses generally consisted of two rooms, a bedroom and a kitchen.

   Most of the houses in olden times were thatched with straw, rushes, tow or shous.
   Each old house had a bed in the kitchen. It was usually placed in the corner and was used as a seat in the daytime, and as a bed at night. This bed was called a settle bed.
   In ancient times the chimney was made of bricks and the floors were yellow clary or channel. Half-doors were
