  1. (continued from previous page)
    We miss the pleasant patter
    Of those busy little feet
    We miss the joyous laughter
    Of that angel-voice so sweet;
    The arms so warmly clinging
    And the kiss our darling gave
    Ah, our hopes on earth lie buried
    In that little baby's grave.

    We wander to that old churchyard
    Where silentness doth keep
    Its solemn and its lonely guard
    O'er death's eternal sleep
    Ah, no one but a mother knows
    How large a void is made
    In life, and how much sorrow grows
    From a little baby's grave.

    To us that spot is hallowed,
    For there the casket lies
    That holds a sinless infant soul,
    A wanderer from the skies;
    We'd give the life-blood from our hearts
    That flower of love to save
    Bu no, she longed for heaven and rests
    In that little baby's grave.
