- The name of the townland in which I live is called Derrynalicka meaning "the flaggy hill", in the parish of Kilfiddane and the barony of Cloonderlaw.
There are fifteen houses in the District at present, and there were twelve house there long ago. There are five houses slated and the remainder thatched. There is only one ruin of a house in Derrynalicka and that one was belonging to John Ryan. The most common names are, Mc Mahon, Keogh and Ryan and each of those is used a few times.
Most of the land is dry and fertile with one small river. There are no lakes or woods in it but there is a big rocky hill from which the District derives its name.
In the time of the "Black and tans" two men stood on that hill waiting to fire on a lorry of soldiers which was coming. When the(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
