An incident of the Land War in Nenagh comes to mind, by the death two years ago of Very Rev. Cannon Cunningham P. P. Templederry. Cannon Cunningham was then a curate in the Silvermines a few miles from Nenagh.
He made a great speech in favour of the tenants for which he was afterwards prosecuted.
The day of his trial, every street in Nenagh was packed with people. Cannon Cunningham marched at their head to the Courthouse, which shows he was not afraid of the English. Hundreds of mounted British Police patrolled the streets, the horses trampling the people, while hundreds of soldiers kept guard at the Courthouse.
Cannon Cunningham was tried and found guilty and he was sentenced to three(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
