2. The Local Forges

   As far back as can be emembered by the old people around here there was a forge in Toormore, it is now unfortunately closed owing to the death of the last representative of the Sullivans. There was also another forge in Dunmanus which was owned by Mr. Hegarty, but now it is closed as the smith is very old and not able to work. There was another forge in Knockeens which was owned by Jerry Murray's grandfather, the field in which it was situated is still called "the forge field". There was another forge in Ardravinna owned by William Wilcox, this is also a ruin. There is another forge in Lowertown which is about three miles to the east
