- ChurningThere are many ways for churning at the present day but the oldest one is with a house. There is an old man in our district who always churns this way. His name is Thomas Lynch and he often told me how it done. Out in the garden there is a hole with a big churn in it. From the top of the churn there is an axle and under the churn there is a wheel. when the milk is ready to be churned the horse is yoked to the churn and is kept going round in a ring until the butter appears.related by Michael Norton.
