  1. There are many ancient buildings in Kells. Amongst the many are St. Columkille's House, The Spire of Loyd and the Round-tower. Long ago when the Danes were plundering in Ireland, a secret passage was made underground from the Spire of Loyd to the the Tower about four miles. The passage is never used now.
    In penal times the Tower was of great use to Catholics. There they hid and there also were laid the sacred vessels and vestments until the soldiers went away.
    St. Columkille's House is also to be seen. The house is made completely of stone. In the interior
