- Once upon a time there was a widow and she had one son called Jack. They were very poor, but they were very happy together until the times got very bad out and out and they were in great need.
One night Jack said to his mother I'll get up in the morning, mother, and I'll go and seek my fortune. Oh, Jack dear, says she, sure you wouldn't go away from me and you all the comfort I have, sure I'd rather have you with me than any fortune you could get.
