  1. The Veiled Lady
Long ago a man and his wife and their five children lived in a house.
There was a settle-bed in the kitchen and the two eldest boys used to sleep on it. Every night at twelve o'clock a white woman would come down out of one of the rooms, and a veil across her face. She would walk up and down the floor by the settle bed.
This night the two boys began to laugh at her; she lifted the veil off her face and began to cearr at them. The next day they were telling their father about it, and he said he would stay up and make out that he was mending boots.
When it was near twelve a lot of black clocks began to come up at his feet. He started to kill them, but they came and came and in the end he ran away. They left the house soon after and no one lived in it since.
