- The girls had their own fun on Hallow E'en. They played many tricks. Some of the tricks they played in the hope that they would see their future husbands in their dreams on that night.
One trick was played with the yarrow. Before sundown on Hallow E'en the girl went to the place the yarrow grew, and with a black-handled knife she cut it using the following words:-
"Good morrow! fair yarrow, Good morrow to thee
Please tell me before this time to-morrow who my true lover will be,
The colour of his hair and the clothes he will wear,
And the day he will be married to me"
