- In the townland of Lisagernal there is a fort from which the townland derives its name, and not far from this fort is a bridge which separates the townlands of Lisagernal and Deerpark.
There is a tale told in the townland of Lisagernal about John Joyce a native of the same townland who was coming home from a wake in Newtownforbes. He carried two loaves with him to his mother. As he came to the bridge he heard beautiful music. He could not help listening to the music, so he left the loaves on the wall of the bridge, and started to dance. When he tried to cease dancing he could not stop. He had to continue dancing until the fairy music ceased.- Bailitheoir
