- Certain days were set aside in olden times for marriages beggining a journey and even for cutting finger or toe nails. There is an old rhyme about the latter which goes like this:-
" Cut them on Monday you cut them for health
Cut them on Tuesday you cut them for wealth
Cut them on Wednesday you cut them for sorrow
Cut them on Thursday you will meet true friends tomorrow
Cut them on Friday great wealth you must seek
Cut them on Saturday bad luck for a week. In the same way it was believed that children born on certain days were gifted or not and the rhyme goes like this:- Monday's child is fair of face. Tuesday's child is full of grace. Wednesday's(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
