There lived a man whose name was James Mac Mahon.

There lived a man whose name was James Mac Mahon. A cow died belonging to him and he salted her to keep her for his own use. One day he had the cow's head down boiling in a pot and there did a beggar Connought woman come in while it was boiling and he asked her would she drink a bowl of the soup and she said if you knew what you have in the pot you would not drink a drop of it and she said stand behind me and look into the pot out over my shoulder. He did and he saw the head of an old "cearthanach" with a foot of beard on it inside in the pot. Then he threw out the cow and no more of her was boiled and he could eat any kind of meat for a long time after.
