  1. I heard a story that happened years ago. There was going to be a parade of the Cavan Militia and a Officer called at a house of an old man named Tommy Evans and asked his wife who was deaf if she had a son. She did not quite catch what he said, so she asked him again and when he repeated the question she said "Our Tommy is in the garden," The officer asked what age Tommy was and she replied "twenty years."
    Tommy's name and age was written down in a book with a list of other names. Some day after another officer called with a notice for Tommy and asked to see him. The old woman brought him to where Tommy was feeding in the garden.
