- John Williams White firmly believes there was witchery in the country in olden times and that "Moggy" was a witch, who lived, like the hare, in no particular place.
In the days of the yoemen Moggy was frequently chased. On one occasion a large force of yoemen chased Moggy for the greater part of a day & towards evening she led her pursuers to the "leap". She jumped down into the river beneath, alighting on a large stone in the river bed, and leaving the marks of her two heels in the stone. This stone does not now occupy its original position close to the leap, but is instead, to be seen several perches further down the river.
This stone was believed to turn like a top on hearing the cock at Lucas' house crowing on the top of the hill land by.
Two girl visitors to Ireland from Scotland once visited "The Leap" to see the stone spin.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
