  1. Local Heroes.
    Long ago people were far stronger than they are now. They worked far harder than they do now. All the weak people died and there was nothing left but strong people.
    There was a man in this country called Paddy Mc.Intyre. (Bull Mc.Intyre), He was a great mower. He went to mow with a farmer in Scotland. He was put to mow with a foreman. The foreman mowed more than him. Mc.Intyre was angry at this. So that night he got a penny and rubbed the blade of the foreman's scythe, and left it that it could not be sharpened. The next day when they went to mow the foreman's scyther would not mow. The boss came round and when he saw that the foreman could not mow he said, "You mowed too well these other days, you can't mow any to-day. So he put him to mow in another place.
    There was a man in this country called Robert Anderson. He lived in
