  1. The principal old custom, still surviving is going round with the wren.
    The young people - both boys and girl - put on all kinds of disguise and false faces. They get musical instruments which some of them play. They, then go from door to door, playing music, dancing and in many cases singing the following amusing rhyme:-
    "The wran, the wran, the
    King of all birds,
    On Stephen's day, he was
    caught in the furze;
    Although he is little, his
    family is great,
    Rise up, kind people and
    give is a trate.
    So up with the kittle and
