  1. My grandmother told me the following story about Mullagh lake:-
    Long ago, when fairs were not so common in the country and when horses - especially good horses were few and far beteen, two men going from Crossreagh to Kells to sell two pigs were surprised to find, on passing Mullagh lake, at a very early hour, one Summer morning, three beautiful horses grazing by the lake-side. Far more astonished, still, they were when these same horses suddenly plunged into the lake and apparently went down in its depths.
