  1. " St Kilian"
    A Lay of the Early Missionary Days
    by
    John Keegan Casey. "Leo"
    I
    Many a tower and mist-crowned castle standeth on thy banks, O'Rhine-
    Many a legend wingeth onward from that silvery wave of thine;
    Marvels strange and deeds of glory, wrought by peasant, priest and peer,
    So we steal one from thy garland in the dark days of the year.
    II
    'Twas a tall Franconian woodman told this story once to me,
    As we stood beneath the vine-porch with the corn moon on the lea
    And I sit behind the hearthstone, - wandering bard and seanachie,
    Chanting forth this golden legend of the times when we were free.

    * This poem was written by John K. Casey to commemorate the dedication of St Cillín's Church, Mullagh in 1858 ( J. Drury)
