  1. Another game played by the boys of Virginia is "Hares and Hounds." This is the way it is played. A few boys are selected as hares and a few more as hounds. The hounds count as far as forty or fifthy and while they are counting the hares run away and hide. The hares mark with chalk the direction in which they go. When the hounds reach forty or fifthy they start to run and they follow the chalk direction until they find the hares. The hares try to escape and some are caught. Three or four more are picked out to be hares this time. The hares then run away and hide. The hounds follow the hares in the same way as before and the game is continued for a long time.
