  1. There was an old poet by the name of Charles Moor O'Donogue who lived in Virginia during the time of the famine He was a farmer, and he was gifted with poetry. He was evicted out of his farm. He wrote some great poetry. This is one of the pieces he wrote:-
    I
Oh! is it you a mhic mochroidhe, that I have met at last.
Oh! Mhuire is true sure every word recalls the happy past.
Where is the white house on the hill,
With the cornfields at its back.
And Charley Moore! O'Donoghue must take the beggars track
    II
Where, where is Seán and Mary gone,
    Oh! where is little Grace,
Whose eyes of blue would brighten up
    the passing traveller's face
    III
We didn't pay my Lord the rent,
    For cold and famine came,
A hundred roofs as well as mine
    Were given to the flames.
