- Travelling Folk are very numerous in our district. One of the best known of them was a woman by the name of Mary Greenan, who lived in Virginia town. She died a few years ago. She used to go out the country and gather bottles. If a person gave her two bottles she would give them a pair of boot laces, or a few pins in exchange. She would sell the bottles in the town, and buy tobacco and Stout.

- Owen Smith was one of of these travellers. He was locally known as "Oweny Eoghanaigh." He is seven or eight years dead. He was supposed to be a native of Ballyjamesduff, and to be wealthy. In order to disguise himself, he painted his face, and wore a peculiarly shaped cap. He had his coat all patched, and patches on the coat,where they were not necessary But through time the people go to know(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
