- Sixty years ago there was a terrible thunder storm. It was in the middle of July. The lightening swept all over Ireland. It lasted during a whole night. Old houses were knocked down by it. At Longfield bridge three sheep and two race horses were killed. These were grazing in Mortimer's field.
In Fitzsimons field in Cloughbally the lightening made a trench, three feet wide and five perches long.
In Ardlow there was a dog lying at a fire in a house and the lightening went down the chimney and caused the flames to set fire to the dog. The people hearing the yelping of the dog got up out of bed and threw the dog out.
The next morning a girl who was milking a cow was struck and killed by the lightening but the cow remained un injured.- Bailitheoir
