  1. In 1840 the year after the "Big Wind" a plague swept over Ireland known as the 'Black Fever.' It was so bad around this area that an hospital had to be erected about a mile outside the town. The burying place was the field behind it now owned by Mr McGovern. As soon as the people died they were brought in a big box to the burying place.
    There was a woman in the hospital called Mary cook. She died as the people thought and they brought her brought her in a box to bury her. They left down the box to take a rest and as they did did she began to kick (hous) box. They opened the lid and she was alive. She went home and hired with a man called Felix McCann and lived for fifteen years afterwards.
